Why are my teeth yellow and discolored?

Yellow, brown, or severely discolored teeth occur due to the natural aging process. Over the years, biting and chewing cause the outer layer of your teeth (enamel) to chip and flake away. This reveals the inner layer of your teeth (dentin) which is naturally yellow in color.

Other factors that contribute to tooth discoloration include:

• Eating foods that stain, like tomato-based pasta sauce

Zoom!® Chairside teeth whitening

Zoom! Chairside teeth whitening is an outpatient procedure that can make your teeth up to *eight shades whiter in just one session. Before Zoom! Whitening treatment, Dr. Sierra covers your tongue and gums with a rubber dam. Afterward, he carefully applies a bleaching solution to the surface of each tooth.

The solution sits for 15-20 minutes. Then, Dr. Sierra points a special blue light at the solution which triggers a whitening reaction. The reaction removes stains and discoloration from the surface of your teeth, revealing a bright, white smile. Dr. Sierra completes this process several times until you achieve your desired results.

Day White®

Day White is a teeth whitening treatment designed for use during the day. It requires only one hour of commitment each day and is substantially less expensive than many in-office alternatives. 

Your Day White kit includes a whitening gel, a syringe, and special whitening trays. You fill the syringe with the whitening gel and squeeze it into your trays. Afterward, you wear the trays for one hour a day. This type of treatment can make your teeth up to 14 shades whiter in just two weeks.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Teeth whitening is safe and usually well-tolerated. The majority of modern treatments use carbamide peroxide, a harmless byproduct of hydrogen peroxide, to eliminate stains.

What’s more, each teeth whitening treatment undergoes years of testing and review by regulatory bodies like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), before being released to the public.
